Professional Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Training

Welcome to the Professional Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Training (ProFACT) website!

On January 5, 2011 the state of New Jersey enacted New Jersey Act P.L. 2010, c. 112 (C.58:10A-64), which establishes standards for fertilizer applications to turf, requires certification of professional fertilizer applicators, and regulates labeling and sale of specialty fertilizers for turf.

ProFACT provides online training and testing for professional fertilizer applicators seeking to become either certified or trained. The training and testing materials were developed by the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station in consultation with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection and other stakeholders.

Anyone interested in fertilizers used for turf is welcome to view the training material (no fee required). Simply click on the Table of Contents tab above to start viewing the training material. Renewal Information

Trained Fertilizer Applicators can now be registered/renewed.  The Certified Fertilizer Applicator needs to log in and go to the Status page.   The CFA then adds the names and contact info for each TFA and prints out a temporary certificate for each.   The payment process will be online by March 18th and then a permanent certificate can be printed.

Credits Coming Soon

Certified Fertilizer Applicators need to earn 8 credits over a 5 year period to maintain certification without having to take the exam again after the initial five years.  Trained Fertilizer Applicators (TFAs) require annual training.  Stay posted for a list of upcoming events.
